The Unsent Message
I was thirteen when I found my mother’s diary. It was hidden away in the back of her closet, tucked behind a stack of photo albums. I wasn’t snooping; I was looking for something to wear to my friend’s birthday party. But when I saw the diary, with its bright pink cover and gold lock, I couldn’t resist taking a peek.
What was the unsent message to Jasmine
When Jasmine received the text, she didn’t know what to make of it. The message was simply “I’m sorry.” No explanation, no context, nothing. Just an apology.
Jasmine wasn’t sure whether to be angry or hurt or both. What could this person have done that they felt the need to apologize without saying anything else? Was it something small, like forgetting to call her back, or something bigger? Something that would warrant such a vague apology?
She thought about responding, but what could she say? “What did you do?” “Why are you sorry?” Nothing seemed like the right thing to say in this situation. So she just saved the message and left it unsent.
It’s been months now and Jasmine still doesn’t know what that message was meant for. She’s moved on from being angry and hurt, but she still wonders about it from time to time. Maybe one day she’ll find out, but until then, she’ll just have to live with the unanswered question.
